“Jackie is a punk, Judy is a runt. They both went down to Berlin, joined the Ice Capades” The Ramones
A childhood blur of musical influences, school uniforms and a closeness to the original punk attitude we were too young to be part of feeds this collection. Manipulating your uniform, rebelling with lapels filled with badges or your shirt-tails hanging out, gonks, covering your rough-book with brown paper then your name, the name of the person you fancy, the name of your own shit band, cool 6th form boys (from whichever side of the tracks), getting caught up in the fun and joy of dressing, music and a lust for life, being part of the prestigious Fashion In Motion series at the V&A, our own archive, the colour that rapidly became known as SIBLING Pink and long forgotten references kicked off our imagination for AW15.
Skinny knit School blazers are shown in stripes with Rough Book versions all styled with Bermuda shorts and jeans. A Pink vinyl latex Judy coat, 12” scarves, biker jackets and jumpers are trimmed with knitted goat hair. Fair Isle snowflake patterns bleed into cable on classic crews and tank tops.
White shirts and undone ties, jumpers loved to the point of disintegration and winkle picker Chelsea boots (a continuation of their collaboration with Robert Clergerie shown here in soft suede) echo the uniforms of school boys and the punk rock movement. Scottish-made accessories include collegiate scarves, gloves, hats and rugby socks mixing the louche style of Sebastian Flyte with the rebel yells of Billy Idol and Paul Simonon, the flamboyant spirit of Johnny Thunders and Hero era Bowie.
